August Road’s Approach to Billing
Our hope at August Road is to build long-term partnerships with our clients to whatever degree is ideal for each client.
In many cases, our work with a client begins with an initial project which was bid at a flat rate, such as a web site design or graphic design project. In such cases, unless stated otherwise, our work on the project is completed after the final project invoice has been sent.
After Your Web Site Project is Complete
After a web site has been created and completed, all future updates to the web site will be the client’s responsibility unless otherwise stated in the project agreement or in a separate maintenance plan agreement (see below for options related to ongoing maintenance). Should the client request future updates or support to be made by August Road, those services can be provided at the hourly rate ($90 / hour) if time is available to provide them.

Our WordPress maintenance package is a great fit for WordPress-powered web sites. WordPress requires regular “maintenance”, such as core software updates, plugin updates, comment moderation, and backups. Without these regular tune-ups, the software can become older, which increases the odds of a security vulnerability or software conflict. Our maintenance package is $50 / month, and includes the following work on a quarterly basis:
- Core WordPress Software Updates (as needed)
- WordPress Theme Updates and Compatibility Checks
- WordPress Plugin Updates and Compatibility Checks
- WordPress Comment Moderation / Management
- Web Site Back-Ups and Exports

Our maintenance package includes work that is largely “behind-the-scenes” in nature. It does not include custom web development, graphic design, or extended technical support/project management (such as requests for support/updates that require development, design, or email support that requires more than 5 minutes to respond to). Those items would continue to be billed at the hourly rate.
Should continued or ongoing development, design, support, maintenance, or project management be requested by the client, we can provide those services when available at a rate of $90 per hour. Work that is not a part of any ongoing or pre-existing project agreement will also be completed at this hourly rate.
How we track and bill work
Whenever possible, we strive to let each client know on a case-by-case basis if the work being requested will be covered under a pre-existing project agreement, or if additional costs should be expected. In general however, work requested by the client following the completion of an initial project or outside the scope of any existing project agreement will be billed at the hourly rate.
We round our time up to the nearest 15 minute increment, however each new “instance” of work carries a minimum 1 hour charge. For example, if a client requests updates to be made to the logo on their web site, and those updates take 45 minutes to complete, the project will be billed for a 1 hour minimum at $90 total. If the project takes longer than 1 hour to complete, time will be tracked and rounded up to the nearest 15 minute increment. Should the client later request unrelated work to be done, that would be considered a new “instance” of work, which would carry the 1 hour minimum. If you have any concerns about how your project will be billed, please don’t hesitate to ask us for clarification or an alternative arrangement and we will do our best to accommodate when possible.
